Watchman
A Call to Pastors
Pastors have an awesome responsibility. They are shepherds, overseers, and watchmen, over the Lord’s flock on earth today and more personally a watchman over your soul.
Psalms 127:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain that build it: unless the LORD keeps the city, the watchman wakes, but in vain.
In Ezekiel 33:1-7 it talks about the responsibility of a watchman to alert the people of approaching danger and the penalties to the watchman if he fails in his duties and in Jeremiah there is a warning to pastors Jeremiah 23:1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
Pastors are called to preach the gospel: 2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Pastors are the physical voice of the Lord today for the perfecting of the saints: Ephesians 4:11-12 And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: and in Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Pastors have an awesome responsibility to preach the eternal word of GOD and will be held accountable for everything they say, everything they do and everything they choose not to do, based on the whole Bible and scripture like Luke 12:47-48 (Jesus) And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Pastors have an awesome responsibility and some pastors, teachers and even congregations become weary because sometimes it just seems that nothing is being accomplished. Well be of good cheer if you are preaching and teaching the word of GOD because in the Bible it says in 1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
In John 10:27 (Jesus said) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: therefore it is the responsibly of everyone who has the opportunity to hear the preaching of the word of GOD to listen.
The call and a commission from the Lord, for all Christians is found in Mark 16:15 (Jesus) Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. In this scripture the whole body of Christ (the church) is commanded to take the word of GOD to the world and while there are varying opinions on how this should be done the proverb “Charity begins at home” comes to mind and reminds me that before I can care for someone else I have to have my act together, then I am able help others. That’s how it should be in the church today when everyone in the local church and the local community have their needs met then and only then is the church ready to take on the world.
Keep on. Keeping on.
Sometimes there are hard places and bumps on the road to spiritual maturity in the body of Christ (the church) but if you keep on, keeping on and keep the faith then GOD will honor your faith and meet your need, sometimes meeting your need in ways you will not even begin understand until years later.
Look around you and see the blessings of the Lord they are all around. You have today and you have hope (faith) for the future.
Have faith in GOD who said in Psalms 50:10 “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills“. GOD not only owns “the cattle upon a thousand hills“, HE made the hills that the cattle are standing on, so again be of good cheer.
In Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible, and in Philippians 4:13 it is writen “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me“.
So GOD’s word has to be a pastor’s guide and the whole word of GOD is for today. 1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
Pastors have an awesome responsibility to preach the whole gospel.
Everyone who claims to be a Christian has a pastor, even pastors and while they may go by many titles they all need your prayers.
Have you prayed for your pastor today?
